b. ceramic foam filters category
(1). Silicon carbide based(CFS)
Silicon carbide based ceramic foam filter is usually used for grey iron, ductile iron(SG), copper casting in which pouring temperature is lower than 1460 degrees celsius. The regular sizes are listed below for your kind reference.
(2). Zirconia based(CFZ)
Zirconia based ceramic foam filter is treated as main filter material in steel casting such as carbon steel, SS steel and steel alloy etc. The application temperature is up to 1700 degree celsius. Please find the regular item below.
(3). Alumina based(CFA)
Alumina based ceramic foam filter is applied in aluminum casting parts filtration in which pouring temperature is normally not more than 1100 degrees celsius. The regular sizes are listed below from 20ppi to 50ppi with or w/o chamfer and gasket.
c. does the filter itself affect the flow rate and pouring time?
Not at all. The filter itself will not affect the flow rate of the molten metal. The choke of the gating system plays a key role in flow rate. It is highly recommended the filter area has to be larger than the gating system choke as suggested below.
3:1 for grey iron casting
4:1 for alumina and copper casting
5:1 even bigger for ductile iron or steel casting
